Is ASQ Certification Worth It?

Are ASQ Exams Open Book?
All ASQ exams are opened book, meaning that test-takers are allowed to refer to any materials they wish during the exam. While you can bring reference materials, there are important rules to follow. All notes or reference books must be bound, meaning they should be permanently stitched or glued, or securely fastened with mechanisms like ring binders or screw posts. Manual, hand stabled documents won’t meet the criteria. Be mindful of the limited space at Prometric test centers, so organize your materials efficiently.
Before entering the exam room, your reference materials will be inspected to ensure compliance. Remember, items such as loose papers, blank tablets, or collections of questions and answers are strictly prohibited. Meanwhile you’re not allowed to bring calculator, the system based calculator will be provided by Prometric.
Are ASQ Exams Challenging?
After analyzing past few years passing rate for ASQ exams, it is evident that these exams are not hard to pass as long as you prepare well. The average passing rate for most ASQ exams ranges from 60% to 70%, which means that the majority of test-takers are successful in achieving their certification.
The only certificate we find below 50% is the Certified Pharmaceutical GMP Professional (CPGP), which has an average passing rate of 45%. However, this should not discourage you from pursuing your certification as the passing rate can vary based on individual preparation and test-taking abilities.

What is the passing score for ASQ exams?
It’s hard to tell what the exact passing score because it varies depending on the exam you take. Generally, ASQ sets a minimum passing score of 550 points out of a possible 750 points for most exams. This equates to a passing rate of approximately 73%. However, some exams may have different passing scores based on their difficulty level and content.
Does ASQ Certification Expire?
ASQ certifications are designed to stay current and relevant, which is why they come with expiration dates. Many certifications, including Biomedical/Medical Device Auditor, Calibration Technician, Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence, Pharmaceutical GMP Professional, Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Black Belt, Supplier Quality Professional, Software Quality Engineer, Food Safety and Quality Auditor, Master Black Belt, Quality Auditor, Reliability Engineer, ASQ/DON Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and Construction Quality Manager, are valid for three years.
Recertification:
The recertification involves around two methods, one is by retaking the examination for the certification and another through obtaining recertification units (RUs). Each of these methods has its own criteria which must be met to maintain your certified status.
Examination:
To recertify through examination, you need to complete and pass the same exam that was taken during your initial certification. Todo this you have to pay the examination fee and schedule your exam. You must retake the exam before your current certification expires to maintain your certified status.
Recertification Units (RUs):
You can also earn RUs through various activities like attending conferences, workshops, seminars, etc., related to quality management. In addition, you can also obtain RUs by conducting training sessions or speaking at such events. Each activity have specific points like Employment 10.8 RU’s, publishing & reviewing papers or articles 0.5 – 4 RU’s, attending seminars and meeting 0.1 RU/hour of attendance.
